When Papa Roach’s second full-length Infest came out at the turn of the millennium, this writer was nothing but a wee rocker with a Slipknot T-shirt on his chubby upper-body and a bike chain attached crudely to his ripped, two sizes too large Spit-Fire jeans (every skateboarder above the age of 10 had them).
Amongst his pile of dirty, scratched CDs were Limp Bizkit’s Chocolate Star Fish And The Hot Dog Flavoured Water, Slipknot's self-titled debut and follow up Iowa, some ridiculous CKY videos and Tony Hawk's for the Playstation One. What a joyous youth it was.
But it’s time to grow up now, its two thousand and bloody nine.
Papa Roach have attempted at some form of growth as well over the nine years that this writer has left them alone and by growing up, this writer means becoming one of the worst bands on the entire planet.
A few excerpts to cement my rather biased statement: (please note: extra letters are representative of a scream, squeal or held vocal note. not the head-butting of the keyboard we indulged in out of frustration)
Lyrical excerpt from "Change or Die": "This is a battle cccaaalll, to one to aaallllll, the ooppoosssiittiiioonn, will take the fffaalll."
Lyrical excerpt from "Hollywood Whore": "Cocaine nose and trendy clothes, gotta send her to Rehab. She found out she’s got no soul, but it really doesn’t bother her. White trash Queen, American dream, oh what a role model." (Says the guy who got famous from a song that went something like “Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort. Suffocation, no breathing, don’t give a fuck if I cut my arm bleeding” and “Would it be wrong, would it be right, If I took my life tonight? Chances are that I might. Mutilation out of sight, and I’m contemplating suicide".)
Lyrical excerpt from "I Almost Told You That I Loved You": “You know I love it when you’re down on you’re kneeesss. And iiii’m a junkie for the way that you pleeease. You shut me up when you swallow me dooown, my back to the waaalll, you’re going to tooown.” (What the fuck, right?).
Lyrical excerpt from "March Out Of The Darkness": "It feeeels like the end of the world, it seeeems like nobody cares. Is it reeeaaal or am I going insannneee? Am I eeeverrr gonna change my wayyyss? Isolateddd, separatedddd, sick of the mess I createdddd. The pressurrreee keeps risinnggg, when the truth is what I’m fightinggggg”. (How many people have to write this type of stuff before each and everyone is shot?)
One last one.
Lyrical excerpt from "State Of Emergency": “There’s a movie playing in my headdd, bombs falling and children crying. The sun rise and the sky turns red, load your guns tonniiiggghhtt. There’s a song playing down the haalll, all alone there’s an old man dying. I can’t feel anything at all, something isn't riiiggghht."
The fact that each and every one of those excerpts were actually just the introductory line to five of the twelve turgid slices of faeces that makes up this record shows just how desperate and utterly horrific this band have become. At least nine years ago they were rocking out to some form of emotion, now it’s just unreservedly embarrassing cliché lines about the most generic topics they could possibly muster.
How many more times must we wade through countless forgotten artists that have lost all talent apart from the ability to work the very basics of their instrument? This isn’t music; this is offensive, attention-seeking rock that doesn’t deserve your time, my time, or the time it takes to print the CD.
If you consider Nickelback as one of the greatest bands alive then there’s a possibility, an infinitesimal possibility that you may find this record appealing, and if you do, then may the Lord have mercy on your soul.
2 / 10
Wow. The reviewers get worse and worse every album release. Wow... Does this have anything to do with the emo steriotype? because if it does then you really shouldn't be writing biased reviews at all or any reviews for that matter. The new drummer is kick ass. And this album was kick ass. So what if they experiemented? Yes the lyrics were not cryptic but not every one can be Disturbed. Music is about following the vibe, not making the same album every year{only Ac/DC can do that and kick ass}. Hehe xD Id give this album a 8/10.
Thomas, you're not a Nickel Back fan by any chance are you?
Pretty sure that Papa Roach -have- been making the same album every other year, with diminishing quality each turn. No surprise here, Brad; well condemned.
Okay, so your cutting them up because they are going a different way? lmao
YOU NOW NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JUST A ONE WHO LOVE MUSIC AND UNDERSTAND THE MUSIC IS ALIVE BUT YOU NOT!!!!
oh and ...
we PR FANS think different about this RECORD!!!!!!!!!!
we love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
i LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so many awesome songs!!!
and an awesome sound!!!
VIVA LA CUCARACHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fuck you ... Metamorphosis is great ... and stupid people hated Jacoby because he was chubby ...
" wee rocker with a Slipknot T-shirt on his chubby upper-body and a bike chain attached crudely to his ripped, two sizes too large Spit-Fire jeans (every skateboarder above the age of 10 had them). "
C'mon ... this is so lame ...can you sing better than Jacoby ??? I don't thinks so ... so shut upp ...
what is your problem??????? Have you seen these guys in concert?????? they put every ounce of bodily energy into those songs and it makes your mouth freakin drop!!! I thought they were mediocre until I saw them live! I always thought jacoby's lyrics seemed to really hit home with my life! Oh and by the way he doesn't try to be a role model in fact he pretty much tells people don't be like me!!! That's what the music is about and if you can't tell that by the lyrics then your stupid! it's about life mainly his life and he's not saying be like me! oh and there's nobody that writes like jacoby! so FU!
wtf? I completely understand if this “trusted critic” can’t take the sheer awesomeness of Papa Roach but it’s totally uncalled for to fucking bash them…
And it's apparent this utterly daft individual has never seen Papa Roach live or heard the way they talk about their music. So why trust some negatively charged idiot???
VIVA LA CUCARACHA!!!
Haha!
Yeah, you can really tell how much passion they put into their music by the artwork this album possesses.
my last comment didn't show up...good thing I saved it!!!

I agree Jade, VIVA LA CUCARACHA!!!
really? im sorry but this album is awesome. ur probably just some guy who tried to make it in the music business nd completely and udderly failed so now you have to take it out on a really awesome band. and the song hollywood whore tells me that its about todays "hollywood" with their lindsey lohans and paris hiltons (no offense to anybody who likes them. i bet you wouldnt be able to tell them this in person. i bet that you would be asking them for their autographs and telling them that you love their albums then sit here and talk shit on them on the internet where you feel big and bad knowing that you have something protecting you. go sit at ur computer and talk hit about great bands and wish that you could be like them.
What a waste of your time huh?! Just because YOU listen to emo-music, where Papa roach actually growed from it, you don't have to diss them .
They have 11875 millions of fans, so shut the fu** off!
i bet this douche bag lives in his mothers basement. id like to see you accomplish what they have done. you probably have the talent that jacoby and the rest of the boys have in one finger.i dont see you putting out five multi million dollar records. so untill you have some talent to compare to you really dont have any room to judge!
Well, so why did you waste your time? Loser.
Your review sucks.
"At least nine years ago they were rocking out to some form of emotion" ...Who the fuck are you to judge the things Jacoby writes about??If you can't get nothing from it, doesnt mean there's no emotion. These guys sincerely love what they do and do it with a passion. They're one of the few bands out there who actually does not consider this a business, and do not throw "cliche lines" into their lyrics just to sell or anything. You should really know what you're talking about before writing your shitty reviews up.
Go ahead and publish a cd yourself, I'd really love the hear your musical genius and your oh so amazing and meaningful lyrics.
This review is a waste of time.
"you probably have the talent that jacoby and the rest of the boys have in one finger"
Hey Brad, I think they're complimenting one of your fingers!
It seems so David!
Wow guys, well done, you've all really outdone yourselves.
It's great to see that my words have truly touched you all.
I don't understand why so many people love Papa Roach and their ratings are always this bad, but who cares... The people that write these are some self-proclaimed "music experts", that think Michael Jackson is the best artist ever-_-
Just listen to some of the new songs on YouTube and make your own opinion.
9/10
I knew Brad would recieve hate mail as soon as this went up...
2 stars out of ten?...I would have given it 1.
I always wonder how this happens. Do shit bands go out of their way to appoint e-scouts, to locate negative reviews, so they can post a link to some Shit Band Hub and send the soldiers there, out from the woodwork? If that is the case, I might suggest the worms learn to represent the bands they support better than they do here.
Team Papa Roach automatically disqualified for OVER!!! USE!!! OF EXCLAMATION!!!!!!!
I'd make everyone register, that way you'd have all the e-mail addresses of the Papa Roach street team.
2/10? I'd have given it 0/10.
i feel you have this all wrong, papa roach was a terrible band back in the day just trying to break in that whole "im kinda rap im kinda rock" thing. this album was really good, no its not the most hard core album they have done but i feel like its a more real album, its what the band is really about, and if you actually listen to this album you will find its up beat and really good! no lifeline is not a good depiction of whats on the album but their singles never are...
i think you rated this album all wrong and already had the score in mind before you listened to it
plus im a huge fan of papa roach and have always been and look no exclamation marks here.
its not a street team that looks around for bad reviews, we just find them and have to challange the reviews papa roach is back and better than ever
You're so amazing and you act like you don't care and can take the fact that people hate your reviews. You're even so sarcastic and clever when you com here writing you're glad you "touched" us all with your words to make us feel stupid. why didn't you publish the comment I posted a couple days ago about your awful review then? Guess you can't take so many bad comments. Can you?
But hey, like Papa Roach, you have your own street team coming here to defend you too! How sweet of them, awww! And of course, all of their comments are displayed.
Loser.

Oh for shit's sake.
No one hear knows anything about music. Papa Roach is a God awful band that needs to stop trying and enjoy their money.
Good on you, Brad, for telling it like it is.
Sorry Mary but... "you act like you don't care and can take the fact that people hate your reviews."
Im sure Brad doesn't care what half these comments have to say, all because the 'people that hate his reviews' are probably 12 year-old uncultured apes . Where as we humans can instantly see that Papa Roach are an embarrassment to human kind.
I could post this in one of the hate thread but it would probably be hidden amongst the thousand of angry responses. I'm also trying to bring a new point.
Upon reading reviews of Metamorphosis by fans, I noticed that everytime Infest is mentionned, that person didn't like the new album, which got me thinking... It seems none of them followed Papa Roach's evolution. Yes, the first album was rap metal. It was hard and raw. But that was the first album. Nothing more, nothing less.
Papa Roach then released LoveHateTragedy. Remember the album that made most of you drop out of Papa Roach because it wasn't hard enough? Well Papa Roach released 2 other albums following this one and guess what, they were also getting softer and more melodic too. But you probably know this already right? Because you probably bought it and complained that it wasn't Infest.
People ask where the heavy riffs are. They're gone, or at least the songs are no longer based on them. Papa Roach evolved out of that. The band has been touring with the likes of Hinder and Buckcherry for a few years. They're at this point where this is the music they want to play. Originally, Jacoby was quoted saying he stopped rapping because he wanted to be a rock star, not a rapper. Recently, he was quoted saying he final feels like the band has achieved a sound of their own.
Personally, growing up with the band, I'm glad they're finally proud of their sound. They went through so much different styles and they've finally reached the sound they want to have.
Is it soft? Yes. Is it similar to Buckcherry, Hinder and other bands from the apparently recently popular pop-rock style? Yes. Does it ****ing matter? Hell no. It's pop-rock with Papa Roach's insanity, and it's the best it could be. That's what the band want to play.
Saying it's not Papa Roach and that Papa Roach lost it after Infest is dumb. Infest is old school Papa Roach, along with Old Friends From Young Years and 5 Tracks Deep. There has never been a CD as hard as Infest from Papa Roach and there will never be one again. So stop comparing every new Papa Roach album to Infest and act like it sucks because it's not Infest.
Infest is a thing of the past. It'll still go down as one of my favorite album ever. But it's not what Papa Roach wants to be and currently is. It' s what they used to be.
And considering you guys didn't realize the hard rap metal was gone with LoveHateTragedy, Getting Away With Murder and The Paramour Session, now it's time
to make your decision. Either you jump in and follow
the band with what THEY want to play, or either you just loop Infest infinitely and stop annoying us. You don't like Metamorphosis? That's your choice and I respect that, but don't compare it to Infest because it's not what it's ****ing supposed to be.
Like I said in the other thread, if the guys were still around with the same songs/style it would have gotten old by now. I commend them on being strong and proud enough to say "this is what we want to play, and this is what it's going to be" and sure enough it was.
Metamorphosis couldn't be a more perfect tittle for this record. The opening track Days of War, pumps you up to listen to the following track all the way through the end with State of Emergency.
This record, while being their most melodic production, is chock-full of amazing bass lines/riffs, soulful harmonies and that hint of grit that always comes with Papa Roach (which you can easily hear in I almost told you that I love you).
I honestly believe that is a well thought out album. The progression is consistent and has a nice flow. It is what I would call a headphone or car cd; blast it loud in your car or just rock it out in your headphones. Metamorphosis is a promising delivery. I know that it will easily translate into a great live show.
I'm not a bandwagon fan, I've been a fan since Infest and I commend them on their growth. I too as a person have grown and can appreciate the changes in not only the sound but their style and state of mind. It shows that like every person in the world, you can't stay stuck in the past, people need to grow.
If I were to rate this record, in a heartbeat I would grant it a 4.0 just because I believe that this band will grow and continue to have amazing success.
Just wondering where you found the 'Submit Novel' button Mr. Ahamed?
Lolz ^^^^^^^
Either Mr Ahamad is unaware that SG scores albums out of 10, or that was the longest post of all time for a two-point-bump.
P.S. Isn't he the dude that produced the Hallowe'en series? Sorry about the deadness thing man, at least you didn't have to watch the remake.
heya, i love the new album.
P. Roach for president.
Ps : your a bad writer, go and search an other job
* You're a bad writer, go search for another job.
Omg :p can you say biased :P i for one loved there new look and style so much better now hes singing properly...
Their new look?!... I'm sorry are we looking at the same album cover?
They are like that un-cool uncle we all have who still thinks he's 21 and 'hip'.
Oh man. The comments on this make me honestly ashamed to like Papa Roach. Why is it that no-one can, y'know, criticize a review without either going over the top and swearing their tits off, or simply writing like an 11 year old Youtuber. All the fangirls: Grow the hell up, please!
Right. So. Your review. I actually totally disagree with you, on pretty mch everything you said. I really like this album, and recently saw Papa Roach live. I mean, it's got catchy songs, great riffs, so what if it's a bit of a cliche? And I think you've got the wrong end of the stick with your comment on Last Resort (amusing though it may be). Plenty of other bands have written songs about suicide, does this make them all bad role models?
Cheers.
BD, thank you for being the first person to disagree in a respectable manner.
It's so much easier to read someone's opinion without all the swearing and hating.
I'm glad you liked the album and though i can't say i've warmed to it whatsoever, its nice to hear someone disagree in a more mature way.
So I dunno if you'll still get this, but I was a huge Proach fan til this album. Yes it blows, but you were a little harsh on it, I would've put it around 4/10, but maybe that's because I liked their other stuff. Sorry for all the shit you're getting on this review, but it was presented a little aggressively nad attacked the band more than criticized the album. Still, someone's gotta say this sucks. Good man. and let me say that one more time:
I AM A PAPA ROACH FAN AND THIS SUCKS COCK
