Kill Hannah: Until There

Kill Hannah: Until There's Nothing Left Of Us [UK]

25th March 2008 | by Aidan Williamson

Light reaches us from the sun within 8 minutes, it seems like sound is a little slower since the U.K have had to wait over 19 months for the official European release of "Until There's Nothing Left Of Us".

To begin with, let's look at the changes the album has undergone, there's been switcheroos, unearthings and droppings aplenty. "Statues Without Eyes", "Under the Milky Way" and "Scream" have all been ditched from this version of the album, replaced with cuts from Kill Hannah's 2003 album "For Never and Ever". Making their way onto the tracklisting from the aforementioned album is "Boys and Girls", "10 More Minutes With You", "Kennedy" and "They Can't Save Us Now".

With bonus tracks "The Chase" and "Nerve Gas" requisitioned from other previous releases (including 1999's "American Jet Set") this should feel more like a 'best of' collection than a simple re-issue. That all the new members of the club fit right in could be construed as good for the album, but bad for the band as a whole. The reshuffling has left a much better album which paces itself well and never loses sight of it's goal of entertainment.

For the unfamiliar, Kill Hannah have been working for nearly 10 years to perfect their new wave mixture of synth-pop echoes, unrelenting punk guitars and effeminate vocals which leap from down-beat melancholic to pushed towards breaking points energetic. Whilst the walls of noise are decorated differently each time, guitars perform spiralling acrobatics around the room which intersect with the aforementioned vocals.

Practically every track has something that leaps off the page, whether it be the electroclash synth-lines of "Crazy Angel" (featuring Elisha Cuthbert), the rare occurance of "Love You To Death" which includes a verse catchier than it's chorus or the burst-fire drumming of "Kennedy" which provides the best view of the bands electronic influences.

Kill Hannah will likely remain a tough sell, despite their tremendous grasp of concocting great music they still have the albatross of their 'goth for beginners' style coupled with their lyrical content, which to put it lightly, remains about as subtle as a Columbo whodunnit. But from what we hear, the albatross was a ship's good luck charm, 'til some idiot killed it.

This is an amazing album, and totally lives up to all expectations!

With their first album merged with this, you can see how Kill Hannah are not one hit wonders, every song has something deep and meaningful to it, along with being catchy, passionate and over all amazing.

With crowd favourites like Lips Like Morphine, Kennedy, Songs That Saved My Life, Crazy Angel, you're sure to listen to this album ALL the way through without skipping through...

Its such an immense album, and the guys truely put everything they had into making this...

It payed off, because one day this album will definatly be a must have...

The eagerly awaited UK release has now arrived, and it's about time.

If you are looking for something just that little bit different; an album that you can play from beginning to end, THIS IS IT!

I can't reccommend this strongly enough!

My advice; turn up your stereo and play CRAZY ANGEL first!!!

Then backtrack to track 1, chill out and get ready to become a life long fan of this amazing band!

What did Hannah do wrong? Just downloaded this on this "reviewers" advice, but its not exactly superb, mediocre at best.
