Thom Yorke Calls For Action On Global Warming

27th February 2008 | by Gavin Riley

Radiohead's Thom Yorke has lent his support to 'The Big Ask Europe', a movement that pushes for more legislation to combat the emissions that cause climate change.

At a launch today, Yorke presented the European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas with a symbol of The Big Ask. The organisation, which includes national Friends Of The Earth groups, is asking the E.U to commit to legally binding limits of emissions that cause climate change.

The Big Ask has successfully campaigned in the U.K to implement a law which would create a binding target for cutting CO2 emissions by 2050 in the U.K.

Yorke said in a statement: "We will never wake from the nightmare of climate change unless our national governments and the European Union act. They are the only ones who can put the structures in place that will help us tackle climate change.

"That is why we are launching The Big Ask in 17 countries across Europe. By committing to annual cuts in our emissions at a national and European level we can play our part in tackling climate change, and set an example for the rest of world to follow."

Fat lot of good this will do.... However you gotta admire Thom for his indefatigably, but until Bush has gone nothing will happen in this tit-for-tat russian roulette with our planet.

Have your say
