Black Gandhi are a reggae group from Barcelona. They're made up of six artists who were inspired by pacifist leader Mahatma Gandhi and influenced by the traditions of black music.

Their philosophy comes with a message: let's live a joyful life, let's be aware of what we do.

The band is developing a solid fan base in Europe, gaining valuable support slots for Youssou NĀ“dour and The Wailers in their home country.

Now they're heading to Austin for the first time and Black Gandhi's JB talked to us all about it:

1) How many times have you been to SxSW?

This will be our first time. We're pretty exited.

2) What's the best thing about being in Austin? Or if you've not been before.... What are your tourism related plans?

Being called the "The Live Music Capital of the World" we're gonna spend our days jumping from one venue to the next to hear what's going on over there. There will be a lot of action on those days so we hope to see a lot of the city too.

3) Why are you playing SxSW? ('Cos we hear the money isn't too good)

Why not! We got invited and it's our first trip to the US so what better opportunity than SXSW to show what we do.

We hope to build a "music bridge" between there and Barcelona and get to play there as much as we can.

4) Who are you showcasing for, and where and when can we expect to see you?

We're showcasing for... Everybody! We're scheduled to play Flamingo Cantina on Saturday, March 19 from 10:00 PM to 10:40 PM. We hope to get more time! We're also staying one more week and play on the 25th again on Flamingo Cantina. That one will be a full length show so you can see the band at his best.

5) Which other bands/artists are you most looking forward to seeing over music week?

We just got back from a tour in Dubai (United Arabian Emirates) and we haven't seen the program in detail yet, but we're sure there's gonne be more than plenty. Plus some of us are big blues lovers so it's one of the places to be!

6) Will you visit the Film or Interactive sections of SxSW this year? Or is time tight?

We're going to the music part and that's kind of at the end but I think we get some of the Film days too. We're gonna be at the showcase as much as we can so everything that's going on - we'll get our hand on.

7) What does the rest of 2011 hold for you?

We're launching our second album (Into Light). It will be ready two days before flying to Austin so it's pretty fresh. When we get back we're gonna do the official presentation here in Barcelona, and then summer festivals in Europe until July. Then back to the States to the west coast maybe (hopefully California) to play some gigs there. Then back here and maybe middle east again for some Festivals.
