T In The Park Organisers On Defensive After Near Fatal Stabbing

13th July 2008 | by Ross Riley

In an horrific and near fatal attack in the early hours of this morning a 22 year old man has been left in a serious condition after being attacked in the campsite at the T In The Park Festival.

It is thought that the victim was attacked by two men after trying to break up an altercation on the campsite. He was found injured near a hedge between two of the site's camping areas.

The festival's manager Geoff Ellis has defended the security at the site which this year is hosting nearly 80,000 visitors, saying that despite best attempts it was impossible to ensure that dangerous items could not be bought onto the site.

Police are looking for two white males. The first suspect was described as white, in his late teens, about 6ft 1in, of skinny build with short, dark brown hair and wearing a white tracksuit top. The second was also said to be white, about 5ft 8in and of medium build and with short, dark brown mullet-style hair. He was wearing a red tracksuit top.

I agree with the organisers on this one. If people are determined enough, they'll be able to sneak anything past security. Looking at the numbers involved, is it possible to thoroughly check each person who attends?

As much as I don't want to be a pessimist and want the guys to be held responsible, those descriptions probably fit about 50% of male festival goers.

An otherwise superb festival - Z008 et al - this is how it should be done!
