Shins Keyboardist Arrested For Domestic Assault

Martin Crandall, keyboardist, and sometimes guitarist for The Shins. He was arrested on Friday night (4 Jan) following an altercation between himself and ex-girlfriend Elyse Sewell.

Sewell - who achieved a measure of fame after featuring in the first series of America's Next Top Model - posted a personal statement about the events of the evening. She alleges that “On the drive home from Albuquerque to Portland, my ex-boyfriend got shitfaced and roughed me up in a Sacramento hotel. I escaped from the room through a blitzkrieg of violence and talked to hotel security, who called the fuzz.”

When the police arrived on the scene both Sewell and Crandall cried violence against the other and both ended up spending the night in jail. Sewell posted bail early on Saturday morning (5 Jan) whereas Crandall stuck around for an extra day, being released sometime yesterday (6 Jan) after initially being unable to arrange the $25,000 bail.

Both parties are due to attend court tomorrow (8 Jan) in Sacramento. They had been involved in what has been described as an 'intense on-off relationship' for the past seven years.
