Placebo walked off stage during their set at Scotland's Rockness festival this weekend after a member of the crowd allegedly hurled a pair of scissors at front-man Brian Molko.
The band were playing the fourth song in their set - "For What It's Worth" - when the incident supposedly happened. Molko addressed the crowd saying "My safety cannot be guaranteed so I'm leaving." amidst a chorus of boos from the audience.
The strike didn't last long though, since the band returned to the stage five minutes later and resumed their set, likely after being reminded how long they have to play in order to get paid.
In honour of Placebo, we'd like to present to you our favourite live shows, cut tragically short when the audience, or band, has just had enough.
1.) Nickelback, Portugal, 2007
2.) Panic at the Disco, Reading Festival, 2006
3.) Daphne & Celeste, Reading Festival, 2000
4.) Pearl Jam, Indio, 1993
5.) Unknown Musician, Attacks Heckler With Guitar, 2006
'allegedly'?
nah, it 'definitely' happened, i was there, at the front and saw Brian hold up the scissors, i even saw them land on stage, so 'allegedly' just don't 'cut' it
and i think the reason they came back to the stage was because so many fans were there and they didn't want to let one person ruin it for the rest of them.
do you even research these stories/bands?
jeez
You might have been there, Craig, but the person who wrote this newspiece wasn't. In the absence of a trustworthy source, the word 'allegedly' safeguards a journalist from asserting some un-truth at the cost of individuals or his/her publication.
Congratulations, you're a witness. Unlucky, you're also a self-righteous bitch.
"Congratulations, you're a witness. Unlucky, you're also a self-righteous bitch."
Harsh, but funny.
I'd like to set the record straight. Because I don't like the way the band, Brian Molko in particular are being perceived on these kind of sites. I was there, front row only about 3 feet away from Brian at the time. What he actually said was "Sorry everyone but some f**ing a**hole just threw a pair of scissors at me" he then added in an almost slighty joking kind of tone "My safety cannot be guaranteed".
He did NOT say "So I'm leaving". That just didn't happen.
They did leave the stage briefly (and can you blame them?!) but only for a couple of minutes, not 5.
And the crowd were booing but this was certainly NOT because the band left the stage. They started booing as soon as Brian told us about the scissors being thrown. Everyone was booing at the person who did it. NOT at the band. Sooooooo. yeah.
Finally - if the person who threw the scissors at Brian Molko is reading this, if I ever come face to face with you I WILL punch you full force in the face. You upset the band, you upset me and hundreds of others who were there. You spoiled the gig. You are a complete f*cktard. If you're not a fan of Brian Molko that's fair enough. Don't bloody go into a tent where his band are playing then you retarded troll spew.
You can not trust anyone! he didn't said f***ing a**hole, he said 'a twat'!!!
I'm wondering why Katia censored the a-word, but not the t-word?
This is precisely why you use the word 'allegedly'.
> You can not trust anyone! he didn't said f***ing a**hole, he said 'a twat'!!!
Er, you might want to clear your ears out luv as they obviously don't work very well. He DID say f**ing a**hole. I clearly remember. So does my boyfriend. And so do 3 other people I've spoken to who were there. So get your facts straight. ::shrugs::
i realised it'd be a good idea to censor it after i posted the comment lol
sorry about that, i will be more careful next time
maybe he said both, coz me ears are ok and i remember he said t-word too
Don't worry about it Katia, we're not aiming for the under-5 Arcade Fire-loving crowd here.
So I think that we've reached a consensus that Brian Molko said something about someone throwing scissors, left the stage and then returned a brief time later.
While I agree that throwing sharp objects while someone is trying to do their job is a heinous crime, it is still a crime, and therefore punishable by our legal system. Mob justice rarely results in the correction that our legal system is built around, merely more violence.
Soz if I sounded a tad harsh before btw. Didn't mean to. I just find it really irritating when I KNOW something is true and someone else tries to say it isn't.
But yeah he probably did say twat as well - sounds like something he would say lol.
Apparently btw people are now saying that the scissors were already on the stage, left there by a roadie. And when someone threw 'something' at the stage, Brian saw the scissors and assumed it was them that had been thrown. But one guy swears he actually saw the scissors being thrown, hitting Brian on the leg and landing on the pedals. So feck knows!
I am totally gutted I just found out there was a meet and greet with Placebo at the carling tent? Missed it. Gutted. Like uberly gutted. So yeah thanks a lot to the bunch of f**kwads camping next to me in VIP that kept me awake ALL night so I was trying to catch up on some sleep during the day and therefore missed meeting Placebo my favourite band of 13 years. Argness! >:'( *le sigh*
I was there and i must admit the whole throwing scisscors incident did ruin the set. 100% i didnt see them get thrown or if they were already on the stage so i dont know. but i do know it ruined the show. you could tell they didnt really want to be there after that.. they played the songs perfectly just lacked..enthusiasim afterwards.
and on another note...i was booing more the fact they left than the fact sumone threw scissors.
