Noel Gallagher has announced he has quit Oasis with immediate effect.
On a statement posted on the band's website he stated:
"It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.
"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."
"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan," he concluded.
The band have achieved massive commercial success, selling in excess of 50 million records worldwide. Yet the past few weeks have proved to be a turbulent period in the band's history.
At the conclusion of Oasis's concert on 11 July at Wembley Stadium, Liam addressed the crowd as he said, "There's been rumours that we're going to be splitting up. Let me tell you now, we're not splitting up, we've only just fucking started!".
Yet just a month later, Oasis cancelled their headline slot at the V Festival in Essex after Liam was diagnosed with viral laryngitis. The final straw appears to have been the cancellation of their second gig in the space of a week because of "an altercation within the band".They were
They had been expected to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris on Friday night (August 28th), but a message on the giant screens informed fans that Oasis would not be performing.
Two hours later and Noel informed fans that Oasis fans via the group's website that it was all over.
