Orchestral gothic punk band I Am Ghost has survived the year and are about to drop a brand new album.
The second-and-a-half album from the band will be called "Those We Left Behind" and should be with us on October 7, 2008. Since the last album the band have undergone something of a re-jig.
Putting another nail is the coffin of 'artistic differences' as the most cited reason for band splits, I Am Ghost lost a couple of members to God. It seems that when he isn't busy telling his followers to form trash flavoured trash metal bands, he's asking them to leave middling indie bands.
In Summer of 2007 bassist/pianist/co-vocalist Brian Telestai left the band alongside his wife, violinist Kerith and was quoted as explaining: "...the band is heading in a direction that I would not feel comfortable following due to my personal beliefs. My faith in God and my marriage to Kerith are both higher priorities than I Am Ghost, and I feel that if I were to continue in the band, both of these would be stressed to compromise."
Nonetheless, the band managed to find replacements with enough black in the wardrobe to do the job effectively.
Regarding the new album, front-man Steve Juliano says "The new album is just good songs. We don't have six or seven minute songs and this crazy epic intro that you will listen to maybe once or twice then skip. We just broke it down and got to the nitty-gritty. This is definitely the darkest album lyrically speaking I have ever written. But, at the same time, the songs are poppy but with this very morbid feel to it."
Hold on to your bleeding heart metaphors people. Is it just us, or were the six-seven minute epic tracks the only good ones that the band ever did?
