Elbow Scoop U.K Critics Award

Ahh Elbow, how everyone loves you.

The "Poll of polls" was conducted by HMV earlier this month and counts not only critics votes but also customer reviews and HMV's own staff votes as well and rather surprisingly, there's not a pop hit in sight.

Elbow grabbed the number one spot with 18 out of 35 outlets polled showing The Seldom Seen Kid as most acclaimed, followed closely by Portishead's Third with 17.

The full list can be seen below and to be honest, its really quite impressive. It shows that you can be a new band, a decade and a half old band or just a steadily increasing band and regardless, your music will be listened to and respected. It's a nice thing to see considering all of the nonsense that come out over the last year and shows a hint of eclecticism starting to flower in the UK's general public.

2008 Poll Of Polls:

1) The Seldom Seen Kid - Elbow
2) Third - Portishead
3) Dig, Lazarus, Dig - Nick Cave
4) Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
5) Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
6) TV On The Radio - Dear Silence
7) MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
8) Bon Iver - For Emma Forever Ago
9) Glasvegas - Glasvegas
10) Hot Chip - Made In The Dark
