Death Cab For Cutie Score US Number One

21st May 2008 | by Ross Riley

Death Cab For Cutie will be celebrating today after the band enjoyed their first No. 1 album in the US based on last week's sales.

'Narrow Stairs' debuted in the top slot on the Billboard 200 after the album sold 144,000 copies in the first week of its release.

Death Cab's previous album, 2005's 'Plans', only managed a number four slot selling 90,000 copies in its first week and eventually spent 50 weeks on the chart.

The band are bucking the trend of declining album sales in America, sales this week are down 13.5% on the same week last year.
