So apparently E-Bay is the now place to check if you're looking for vinyl test-pressings of rare collections of live material.
This "Animal Crack Box" is up for auction on E-Bay (Click HERE to check it out) and aside from looking totally awesome and something this writer would sell his left-foot for, it also contains a whole bunch of insanely cool live recordings from the Animal Collective.
The box is being sold by the Catsup Plate label and 100% of all profit is going toward Doctors Without Borders (a Nobel Peace Prize winning medical humanitarian organization).
The commercial versions of the box-set aren't due for another couple of months and apparently, they will be limited to just one thousand copies.
The auction page states:
"Copies of the full boxed set won't be available for a couple months yet (PLEASE don't contact us about it -- we simply don't know all the details as to when it will be available). There will be 1000 copies total, with no CD release. Copies will most likely not go through any traditional distributor channels, which means you won't find these at your local record store or through amazon.com or anything like that. All the art is silkscreened by the good folks at VG Kids, the LP jackets, the slipcase and the outer strip, everything. The amazing illustrator Jon Vermilyea did the drawings and the whole package was designed and art directed by Rob Carmichael, SEEN. We're very excited about this project."
"One generous person can have the opportunity to obtain all three approved test pressings, housed in the very same screen printed packaging that the "real" edition will be in. This is a one-of-a-kind item. We will not be selling any more of the test pressings."
This is not only a fantastic opportunity to get some rare material but it's also going toward a good cause and though it's a little pricey, it may well be worth it.
