Animal Collective New Album In January?

06th October 2008 | by Aidan Williamson

A new website supposedly by Animal Collective has appeared on the internet. The mysterious site has fans of the band scratching their collective heads as they try to ascertain what the whole thing is actually about.

The page carries the title 'Animal Collective: Merriweather Post Pavillion' and features a video of a hand manipulating a fish. In a skewed font alongside the video, the site proclaims 'January' and 'Fish by Nate Young'. Nate Young, as you may know, is the brains behind Michigan noise-rock band Wolf Eyes.

Fans discussing the news were quick to point out that although Merriweather is a 16,500 seat venue just outside Baltimore, Maryland, such a venue would be beyond the scope of Animal Collective and the title is much more likely to refer to a forthcoming album from the band.

If true, it would be the band's first album since "Strawberry Jam", which was released a little over a year ago in September 2007. To see the wacky surrealism for yourself, direct yourself to www.myanimalhome.net.
