Albums Out This Week: W/C 5th October 2009

Support new music: choose from our favourite new albums this month.

Female monkeys in Morocco, are said by some to have been observed suckling themselves after experiencing extreme grief.

This is pertinent because Idlewild died a while ago, and have proceeded to suck ever since. Can we not just pretend that The Remote Part was their last album, why must they keep twisting the knife by releasing more and more albums?

We could say the same for The Raveonettes, but we're convinced that In and Out of Control is just a brief hiccup on their pathway. If not, feel free to yell 'we told you so' later on. There's probably something positive to say about some of the albums released this week too. Oh look! Air have one out, they're always delightful.

Air: Love 2

We all know Air best for their fourth studio album Talkie Walkie, an album that boasted some of the greatest ambient electronic music to ever grace this chaotic world. Since the release of Talkie Walkie in 2004 the French duo have release one more full length album besides this release, the album did not garnish the best of opinions from the SG crew, however, we still have enough time in the day to give these talented men another chance.

The Leisure Society: Sleep (+A Product of Ego Rain)

Originally released by in March of 2009, the South-England based folk collective - headed by She Talks to Angels' Nick Hemming - have now signed a new record deal and seen fit to re-release their début album complete with bonus CD comprising eight additional recordings, consisting of unreleased demos, b-sides and various other oddities including a cover of 'Cars' by Gary Numan and a new single version of "Save It For Someone Who Cares".

Idlewild: Post Electric Blues

The pre-order for Post Electric Blue has been open for over five months now, maybe the band expected a huge amount of demand? or maybe they just want to build anticipation.... either way, they've wasted precious time that should have been spent creating a decent album rather then 11 tracks of mediocre Idlewild on auto-pilot. It's slowly looking like The Remote Part is only becoming more remote to these once phenomenal Scots.

Twilight Sad : Forget The Night Ahead

These folks will be the second Scottish collective releasing an album this week and we can assure you that Forget The Night Ahead will quite literally make you sit back, relax and forget the night ahead. We've been closely following the four Scotsman since they released their début in 2007, an album that can only be explained as a warm-up to the awesomeness that is this sophomore.

Mountain Goats: The Life Of The World To Come

We have massive amounts of respect for The Mountain Goats, their alternative sound has influenced thousands of musicians since they formed back in 1991 and with sixteen quality albums under their magnificent belts, number seventeen really deserves a listen. Floating about the shop floors and hard drives of those music fanatics will be a bonus record that was issued with the first few copies of the album, the CD hosts thirteen tracks that were all used in the making of The Life Of The World To Come.

Dead Man's Bones: S/T

Let us sell this record to you; for the female audience: Dead Man's Bones is the work of the rather charming Ryan Gosling, a man that I'm sure you all naturally gravitate towards. For the gentlemen; Mr. Gosling has also managed to create a sound that can only be described as spooky, so man-up and get involved! That was a pretty poor excuse but we just wanted a reason to call Ryan charming.

The Fall of Troy: In The Unlikely Event

The Fall Of Troy took on a new bassist for this album, Frank Ene actually joined the band to record their last E.P Phantom On The Horizon after former bassist Tim Ward departed from the band. In The Unlikely Event will come in a deluxe version, if you're so lucky as to obtain one of the thousand copies of this version then you'll be the proud owner of a USB stick packed with video and audio footage from the band.

Ludovico Einaudi : Nightbook

Nightbook is no ordinary release for us, we've delved into the wondrous realm of classical music before but never from such a prestigious and illustrious musician such as Ludovico Einaudi, a contemporary classical composer from Turin Italy that has released a vast catalogue of music over the years. This will be Ludovico's 11th album since his début was released in 1988 and we're sure that this will be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable records to be produced this year.

The Heavy: The House That Dirt Built

The Heavy was spawned from the love of vintage R&B, four British chaps met in 1990 to form the band and since then their sound has morphed into a wide range of Funk, Soul, Blues and many more. With the announcement of their sophomore album came a flood of relentless publicity which has earned these four British folk a mountainous pile of eager anticipation.

Nancy Elizabeth: Wrought Iron

Nancy Williams impressed us with her début album in 2007, since then we've heard almost nothing from the talented young British lady but that's not to say she's been forgotten in the slightest. We've heard a few songs from Wrought Iron and from a first listen it remains obvious that the magnificent Nancy still holds a great talent for song writing.

The Raveonettes: In and Out of Control

The icy Danish two-piece, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo return for another album of pop rhythms and fog-drenched sounds. We don't like to say bad things in these synopsis, but somebody killed Sune and replaced him with a doppelgänger, it's the only explanation!

HORSE the Band: Desperate Living

"So they're kind of living heavy rock, almost metal with mass splurges of electronic chiptune music thrown in, completely bonkers", you say describing HORSE the band to a friend. "What? Like Enter Shikari?", if you get that response, feel free to strike your former friend in the face, very very roughly.
