Remember those daring days when bands would send out a press release signalling their intent to release their album sometime in the near future.
Well times have changed, now you've got to have some kind of gimmick. Bloc Party are the latest band to enter that domain, provoking feverish speculation, this time with a countdown clock on their website.
Most fans are envisioning the release of their third album or at least a single when the counter reaches zero, with others suggesting it will be just a new website.
The band are known to be in collaboration with Jacknife Lee and Paul Epworth on the production of their latest effort, but it remains to be seen come 11 o'clock Monday whether Bloc Party will bring us anything substantial.
UPDATE: It seems that the countdown was a bit of a bomb seeing that it led to not a new album for download, not a new song for streaming, but a measly plug for Zane Lowe's radio show which may feature airplay of new Bloc Party material. The plug pointed to BBC Radio 1, tonight (July 7) at 7:30pm.
What a letdown, thought they were gonna do a Radiohead
Although looking at the website, it's still a possibility, but what was the point of the countdown, surely they shudda counted down to 7:30pm???
Well the radio announcement could still bring the news everyone's waiting for, so maybe we should wait and see. What time is 7:30 at Eastern? Anyone know if you can listen online?
