Support new music: choose from our favourite new albums this month.
Video Of The Week has been going for just about forty weeks now and not once have we featured Interpol, a personal favourite here at SG and possibly one of the best bands this decade has seen.
Their debut, 2002s Turn On The Bright Lights was a near flawless first record and was considered a mile stone in the world of music. The first song from that record and still probably our favourite of all time was the albums introduction, Untitled.
Atmospheric, hypnotic and completely otherworldly, the song is Interpol at their best, fusing reverb-heavy guitar with a simple drum rhythm, a deep, thumping bass and lead singer Paul Banks' wonderfully melancholic vocals.
The video below shows the band at the La Route Du Rock Festival in Saint-Malo, France and note for note, the foursome recreate the entire soundscape right there on stage. Say what you want about their newer material (we still think it's pretty damn good) but you simply can't fault the musicianship here, not when they pull it off with such ease and near-pretentious nonchalance.
