The Raveonettes Live at SxSW 2008 - Vice

SxSW 2008 Live: The Raveonettes

14th March 2008 | by Ross Riley

So where do we head to to find Denmark's finest purveyors of sleaze riddled guitar noise?

Where else than a small cavern called 'Vice' on Austin's 5th Street, a location that is ideal to experience the sheer sinful joy of The Raveonettes.

The venue itself is a stunning brick walled and intimate location, balconies around the edges on three different levels allow more fans per square foot that you would imagine possible.

Judging by the numbers, the Raveonettes are creating quite a buzz Stateside. Their album Lust, Lust, Lust has only been available here for a month and they've been over here promoting for about the same time.

Whilst the Raveonettes sound stunning on record, they're one of a rare breed of bands whose live sound actually feels more developed, as though the limitations of recording strips layers from the whole experience.

Nowhere is this better shown than on the brilliant performance of Aly Walk With Me. Sharin's luscious, ethereal vocals fill out the venue just before the guitar feedback gently weeps a melody over the top. 'You Want The Candy' is a particular favourite tonight, likely due to the heavy radio rotation the track has been getting over here.

Considering most bands have been struggling with sound setup at this festival, The Raveonettes go off stage tonight with one of their most accomplished live performances under their belt. America beckoned, they conquered.
